Ogun Customs Records N2.47bn Seizures in Intelligence-Led Operations

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, says it has intercepted contraband with a combined duty-paid value of two-point-four-seven billion naira in the last one month.

The seizures, made between August 14 and September 17, 2026, included a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography valued at four-hundred-and-seventeen-point-zero-one million naira.

The Acting Customs Area Controller, Ogun I Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, disclosed this on Thursday while briefing journalists at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko, Ogun State.

Afeni said the seizures were the result of intelligence-led operations carried out by officers and men of the command along the border corridors.

Items intercepted included one-thousand-two-hundred-and-four bags of foreign parboiled rice, three-thousand-eight-hundred-and-ninety-three parcels of cannabis indica weighing one-point-eight-seven-eight tonnes, four-hundred-and-twenty-eight pneumatic tyres and eight-thousand-six-hundred-and-seventy-five litres of Premium Motor Spirit.

Others are 24 bales of second-hand clothing, four sacks of used shoes and 500 litres of diesel.

The Customs Area Controller said the seized cannabis would be handed over to the Idiroko Special Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for further investigation and appropriate action.

He attributed the command’s success to effective intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security and government agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service and NDLEA.

Afeni said the command would sustain its enforcement operations along the border corridors and strengthen inter-agency collaboration to curb smuggling and other forms of cross-border crime.

He urged members of the public to support lawful trade and provide useful information to security agencies, assuring that the command would continue to enforce the nation’s laws while facilitating legitimate commerce across the border.
