Ogun, DP World Seal Agreements on Deep Seaport, Special Economic Zone

The Ogun State Government and DP World MEA FZE have signed Memoranda of Understanding for the development of the Gateway Deep Sea Port and the Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone.
The projects are expected to attract more than seven billion dollars in initial investment and create over fifty thousand direct jobs.
President Bola Tinubu witnessed the signing ceremony in Paris, France, alongside the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and the Director-General of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho.
The agreements are aimed at strengthening Nigeria's maritime infrastructure, easing trade bottlenecks and expanding the country's manufacturing and export capacity.
Speaking at the occasion, President Tinubu said the projects would address longstanding infrastructure and logistics challenges while providing an integrated platform for industrial production, maritime commerce and access to African and global markets.
He said the Gateway Deep Sea Port, to be located in Ogun Waterside, would have a four-kilometre berth and an eighteen-metre draft, enabling it to handle larger vessels and reduce pressure on the Lagos port corridor.
The port will be integrated with the proposed ten-thousand-hectare Blue Marine Special Economic Zone, which is expected to accommodate manufacturing, processing and export-oriented industries.
President Tinubu said the zone would support the processing of Nigerian raw materials for export and the conversion of imported inputs into finished products.
He also identified the twenty-eight-kilometre Ogun section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a critical link between the port, industrial zone, Lagos and the Nigerian hinterland.
The President said the projects, together with other planned investments in the area, would strengthen the connection between maritime infrastructure, industry, energy and trade.
He assured investors of federal support for road, rail and power connectivity, regulatory clarity, investment security and maritime development.
President Tinubu also urged all parties to ensure that the agreements translate into actual investments, infrastructure, jobs and economic opportunities.
Earlier, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, had described the signing as a major milestone in the state's long-standing ambition to develop a deep seaport.
Governor Abiodun said the project would boost trade, attract foreign investment, strengthen supply chains and create opportunities in maritime services, logistics, manufacturing and technology.
He said the Blue Marine Special Economic Zone would provide a platform for capital, technology, innovation and industrial development.
The governor also highlighted the planned integration of the deep seaport with other infrastructure projects, including the Gateway International Airport, dry ports and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
Governor Abiodun stressed the importance of implementing the agreements, as well as ensuring host-community participation, environmental sustainability and security.
The signing is seen as a significant step in Ogun State's efforts to develop its coastal economy and strengthen its position as a hub for industrial production, logistics and international trade.
