The Ogun State Football Association, OGSFA, has commenced moves to reform football administration in the state, with stakeholders resolving to strengthen grassroots structures, regulate competitions and harmonise the annual football calendar.

The resolutions were reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the SWAN Secretariat, MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto, Abeokuta.

The meeting, which was a continuation of consultations that began in August, brought together members of the OGSFA Board, Football Council Chairmen and Secretaries, representatives of the Coaches Association and other stakeholders.

At the meeting, stakeholders called for better coordination among the Football Association, Football Councils, clubs, academies, coaches, referees and facility managers to ensure a more organised football administration in the state.

They also resolved to engage the Ogun State Commissioner for Sports Development, the State Sports Council and stadium management authorities on the proper use and management of government sports facilities.

The stakeholders further agreed that all football competitions and leagues organised in the state must comply with established approval procedures, including seeking the necessary approval of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, through the appropriate football structures.

As part of the reform process, the meeting called for the strengthening of Football Councils to make them more functional and responsive to grassroots football development.

The councils are expected to coordinate clubs and academies within their jurisdictions, organise recognised competitions, maintain proper records and maintain regular communication with the OGSFA.

The stakeholders also agreed on the need to harmonise and register coaches operating in the state, while promoting continuous education and capacity development.

A major outcome of the meeting was the constitution of an OGSFA Stakeholders' Committee mandated to review and harmonise football programmes, minimise clashes among competitions and develop a comprehensive annual football calendar for the state.

The committee is chaired by Prince Tunji Onatolu, with Pastor P. A. Akinsanmi as Vice Chairman.

Other members are Alhaji Adebayo Hameed, Alhaji Yusuf Ibrahim, Mr. Bayo Adegboyega, Mr. Olusegun Folarin, and Mr. Henry Oviawe.

The committee is expected to work with the OGSFA Secretariat, Football Councils, clubs, academies, coaches and other stakeholders before submitting its recommendations and proposed football calendar to the Association for consideration.

The meeting also called for increased publicity and stakeholders' orientation, as well as the organisation of more structured grassroots tournaments aimed at talent identification and youth development.

Stakeholders further resolved to strengthen monitoring of football activities across the state to ensure compliance with approved regulations and directives.

They also agreed to improve collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for adequate security at recognised football activities.

The stakeholders pledged their support for the reform process, stressing that discipline, accountability, transparency, cooperation and respect for constituted football structures are essential to the sustainable development of football in Ogun State.
