Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called for stronger bilateral relations between the state and Tunisia, particularly in sports development, grassroots football and institutional collaboration.
Governor Abiodun made the call when the Tunisian Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Mohsen Antit, visited Abeokuta in connection with the CAF Confederation Cup encounter between Shooting Stars of Ibadan and Tunisia's CS Sfaxien.
Represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, the governor said Ogun State was interested in benefiting from Tunisia's experience in grassroots and professional football development.
He said the state was particularly interested in learning how Tunisian clubs such as Espérance Sportive de Tunis, Étoile Sportive du Sahel and CS Sfaxien had developed strong structures and identities that enabled them to compete successfully in continental competitions.
Governor Abiodun also sought collaboration in repositioning Gateway Football Club, stressing that Ogun State has abundant football talent and infrastructure that could support the development of a sustainable football system.
He said the proposed partnership could cover coaching, scouting, youth academies, technical development, club administration, sports management and exchange programmes.
The governor explained that the objective was to develop home-grown talents while building clubs capable of competing successfully at both domestic and continental levels.
Responding, the Tunisian Ambassador, Ambassador Mohsen Antit, expressed his country's readiness to strengthen relations with Ogun State.
He said Tunisia's football success was built over time through strong club structures, youth development, technical expertise and effective administration.
The ambassador welcomed the proposed partnership, noting that exchanges involving coaches, football administrators and young players could promote knowledge transfer and capacity building.
He added that the proposed cooperation could also extend to education, culture, tourism and investment
