Pastor Francis Kehinde of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Throne of Grace Parish, Olorunsogo, Abeokuta, wants children to remain determined, disciplined and prayerful as they resume for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Pastor Kehinde gave the charge during a sermon titled “Power of Determination” at the church, where he encouraged the children to see the new academic session as an opportunity to pursue excellence and achieve great things in life.

He urged them to approach their studies with seriousness and determination, stressing that success requires a strong resolve to remain focused despite challenges and distractions.

Drawing inspiration from the biblical account of Daniel in Daniel 1:8-9, Pastor Kehinde  said Daniel demonstrated determination by resolving not to defile himself with the king’s food and wine despite finding himself in Babylon, a place where he was exposed to practices contrary to his faith.

According to him, Daniel’s decision to stand by his convictions should serve as an example to children as they return to school.

He advised the children to resist negative peer influence and other distractions that could undermine their academic and spiritual development, urging them to remain disciplined and prayerful in their pursuit of greatness.

Pastor Kehinde also appealed to parents not to relent in their efforts to invest in the education and overall development of their children despite the prevailing economic challenges in the country.

He noted that raising and educating children required sacrifice, but urged parents to remain committed to providing the necessary support and guidance that would enable their children to fulfil their potential.

Pastor Kehinde also encouraged parents to complement their financial investment in their children with prayers, proper upbringing and moral guidance, saying that children need both academic and spiritual foundations to become responsible and successful adults.

He expressed optimism that with determination, discipline, prayer and the support of their parents, the children would excel in the new academic session and grow into individuals who would make meaningful contributions to society.
