The Director-General of the National Sports Commission, NSC, Chief Bukola Olopade, says the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is demonstrating strong commitment to the development of sports through massive investment in sports infrastructure across the country.

Chief Olopade stated this while speaking in Abeokuta on the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and provide modern sports facilities in different parts of Nigeria.

He said the NSC had awarded contracts worth billions of naira for the development of sports facilities in schools, neighbourhoods and international stadia, describing the initiative as part of the ongoing resurgence and reform in the nation's sports sector.

The NSC Director-General particularly commended the Kaduna State Government for its efforts in revamping the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, which he described as remarkable.

He said the Commission would also provide a training pitch at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena Kuto Abeokuta to complement the existing facilities at the stadium, with work expected to commence soon.

Chief Olopade explained that rehabilitation work had already commenced on some old sports facilities, including the Muda Lawal Stadium, with the objective of transforming them into modern, twenty-first-century sporting facilities.

According to him, the Federal Government's investment in sports infrastructure is aimed not only at promoting sporting excellence but also at creating employment opportunities and empowering Nigerian youths.

The NSC boss stressed the need for more neighbourhood sports facilities where young boys and girls can discover and develop their talents.

He said the impact of sports on employment creation and the economy is already evident, noting that the Commission has data to demonstrate the number of Nigerians benefiting from activities within the sector.

Chief Olopade urged the media to give adequate coverage to the ongoing transformation in the sports sector, saying the country must move beyond the way things were done in the past and focus on bigger and better possibilities.

He maintained that sports remains a powerful tool for youth development, employment creation and nation building, adding that investment in sports ultimately helps breadwinners provide for their families.
