The Ogun Central Senatorial Candidate of the Accord Party, Mr Lateef Abiola Ajetunmobi, has congratulated Nigerians particularly residents of Ogun Central Senatorial District on the occasion of the 2026 International Day of Rural Women.
In a message in Abeokuta to mark the celebration, Mr Ajetunmobi acknowledged the contributions of rural women farmers to food production, household sustenance, environmental protection, and national economic development.
Speaking on the theme, “Rural Women Farmers Caring for Mother Nature" Mr Ajetunmobi described rural women as important stakeholders in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, noting that their efforts in crop cultivation, livestock production, and food processing contribute significantly to food security and the livelihoods of millions of Nigerians.
He said the theme highlighted the role of women farmers in promoting sustainable agricultural practices, conserving natural resources, protecting soil fertility, and preserving the environment for future generations.
The Accord Party candidate called for increased support for rural women through improved access to land, affordable credit facilities, quality farm inputs, modern agricultural equipment, storage facilities, and reliable markets for agricultural produce.
He also advocated the adoption of climate-smart farming practices to help rural women address the challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, and rising agricultural production costs.
Mr Ajetunmobi stressed that empowering women farmers would strengthen rural communities, improve household incomes, and contribute to sustainable economic development.
He urged governments, agricultural organisations, development partners, and community leaders to work together to create better opportunities for rural women and ensure that their contributions to agriculture receive adequate recognition and support.
