Plans are underway to make the grassroots sports development clinic a quarterly programme aimed at identifying and nurturing sporting talents among young people in the state.

The Coordinator of Ogun Sport Youth Ambassadors, Mr Falowo Adedeji made this known while speaking in Abeokuta against the recently held clinic for Under-15 male and female athletes.

Mr Adedeji explained that the programme which brought together forty young athletes from the 3 Senatorial districts of Ogun State was a developmental clinic designed to expose children to sports, identify their talents and encourage them to pursue positive career paths.

He added that the initiative was also aimed at keeping young people away from the streets by providing them with opportunities to develop their sporting abilities.

According to him, the programme goes beyond sports, as it is also designed to incorporate education and entertainment as part of efforts to support the overall development of the participants.

He explained that the clinic was organised as part of the unveiling of Ogun Sport Youth Ambassadors, a platform designed to promote and develop different sporting activities, including sports that are yet to feature in the Olympic Games, as well as indigenous and conventional sports.

The Coordinator solicited the support from individuals, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to enable it organise more clinics and expand its talent identification programme.

Mr Adedeji disclosed that another edition is being projected for December with plans for a further programme in April next year.

He expressed optimism that the number of participants would increase from the initial forty athletes to between one hundred and one hundred and twenty young athletes in subsequent editions.

Mr Adedeji appealed for greater support for grassroots sports development in Ogun State, noting that such initiatives would provide young people with opportunities to discover and develop their talents.
