The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode Federal Constituency, Architect Dele Olaleye has pledged to give healthcare issues priority attention if elected to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives.
Architect Olaleye made the pledge in a message in Abeokuta to commemorate the 2026 World Mental Health Day, emphasising the need to accord mental health the same attention as physical health.
He called for increased public awareness, improved access to professional mental healthcare and concerted efforts to address the stigma associated with mental health conditions.
The PDP candidate noted that many people experiencing mental health challenges often suffer in silence because of discrimination, inadequate awareness and difficulties accessing appropriate care.
He said his legislative agenda, if elected, would include advocacy for stronger primary healthcare services, mental health education and improved access to affordable and quality healthcare, particularly for vulnerable members of society.
Architect Olaleye also stressed the need for collaboration among government institutions, healthcare professionals, community leaders and civil society organisations to address the health needs of residents.
He urged families and communities to show greater understanding towards people experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties, while encouraging those in need to seek professional assistance.
The candidate maintained that the health and well-being of residents must remain central to public service, adding that improved healthcare access and greater mental health awareness were essential to building healthier communities.
