The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the House of Representatives for Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode Federal Constituency, Ogun State, Architect Dele Olaleye has pledged to prioritise the welfare, economic empowerment and political participation of women if elected.

Architect Olaleye made the pledge in a message in Abeokuta to commemorate this year's International Day of Rural Women, with the theme, “Rural Women Farmers Caring for Mother Nature.”

He acknowledged the contributions of rural women to agricultural production, food security, environmental conservation and community development, noting that their efforts remain vital to the nation's economic growth.

The PDP Reps candidate observed that many rural women continue to face challenges, including limited access to agricultural inputs, credit facilities, modern farming equipment, healthcare, education and markets.

He said that, if elected, he would advocate legislation and policies aimed at improving women's livelihoods, expanding economic opportunities and promoting their participation in decision-making.

Architect Olaleye also pledged to support initiatives that would enhance women's access to agricultural financing, vocational training, entrepreneurship development and climate-resilient farming practices.

He called on government institutions, agricultural organisations, civil society groups and community leaders to collaborate in addressing the challenges confronting rural women.

The candidate stressed that the development of Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode Federal Constituency could not be achieved without the active involvement of women in its economic, social and political development.

He urged stakeholders to move beyond celebrating rural women to implementing practical measures that would improve their welfare and promote sustainable agriculture.

The PDP candidate reaffirmed his commitment to making the concerns and aspirations of women a priority in his legislative agenda if elected.
